Really good fun with the right flies
Very small flies at the Goldenloch is the way to catch the fish, anglers have been getting good catches using 16 and 18 hooks with PTN and buzzers red or black being the favourites, Thursday and Friday last week saw the start of the daily rises which have been delayed this year by the abnormally cold evening and mornings and this combined with the very bright day times made the fish very selective, the water temperature also now haven risen to 16 degrees tings should really start to happen. Mr C Robertson, Abernethy using his own home tied flies had 3 for 6lbs and Mr R Millar using only small damsels had 3 for 7lbs, Mr Ian Crighton, Springfield very unusually fishing from the bank using a combination of flies had 3 for 7.5lbs and returned 6, from the bank anglers have been seeing the fish travel very fast up the side of the lily bank sometimes taking flies as they shoot past giving fantastic sport to the angler if it happens to be your fly one such gent was Mr Tom Caruthers, Newport who caught and released a fish of approx 7-8lbs that took his size 18 hares ear on the move he was casting west to east as the fish travelled north to south pulled him out to the backing, he then had to try and bring the fish back without it running into the weeds for cover , as the fish had given him such a good fight he reckoned it deserved a second chance and returned it safely back to the water.
