Goldenloch
March 27th–Week 13- 2017
Huge improvement in the weather, towards the end of last week, the fish have responded to the sunshine, since the beginning of this year we have introduced a lot of fish, a bit more than years gone past, these new fish basically this year due to the adverse weather conditions, wind and rain, have just gone to ground, this is really good, as it gives them time to acclimatize to the abundant natural food, at the hatchery / rearing farm, the fish are fed mechanically, perhaps twice a day or even all day by machines which spew out protein growth pellets, these pellets are formulated to enhance both the growth and condition of the fish, so on the day of them being transferred from the rearing tanks to the loch, they are pretty much in tip top condition, they also go from being financially accountable in the world of economics’ to unaccountable, as they are actually being realized into the wild, it takes a few days for these newly introduced fish to acclimatise themselves not only to their new surroundings, they have no pellets being flung at them, they are suddenly faced with being able to swim in long straight lines, not round and round in tanks, the first thing that they seem to do, is find a place to lie, or to make an area there own territory , while these fish are doing this, the ones that are already in those spots are being displaced and often the anglers enjoy the benefits of not catching the new fish, but rather the older fish looking for a new place to lie in, we work a system here at the Goldenloch of having a large amount of what we would term older or more naturalized fish, at all times, as opposed to newly stocked trout, the reason we like to think is, that the fish are or should be harder to catch, in that they are on natural food, also we think that it makes the fish flesh much better to taste, but by far the most important fact is, it should give the angler a lot more fun trying to catch them, this last week has seen fish being caught using Diawl Bachs, Montana’s, Green Black buzzers, to name a few, disappointing is that some anglers are using more high tech materials that are genuine 100% attractors, but that is progress, The art of Fly Tying is centuries old and has never been so popular as it is just now, what is really important, is that lochs and waters need to have the ability to challenge the anglers, all these fantastic flies and they are not really appreciated, Some people however get a real good kick and buzz from having a great day, the Grim brothers, (Huff & Puff) from Perth, had not one, but two amazing days, young Grim catching a grand slam not once, but twice, a brown, a rainbow and a blue trout, with all fish over 3 lbs and in excellent fighting condition all caught on tiny dark green buzzers, his brother having an equally as good day as everybody has had this last week catching blues and rainbows.
