July 17th –Week 29-2016
To day its all about loads of weeds, and a lot of effort by Aaron Scot and Greg Watson, both from Leslie, interestingly the weed after it has flowered which seems to have happened, is starting to fall over, pretty much I guess due to the fact it has grown so fast, the fishing has also been a bit weird, really good up till Thursday morning about 9am, as early morning fishers Barry from Dunfermline had 9 and Ryan had 5, both will testify, leaving early for other commitments, Mr Hunter also fishing steady had 9 and a pleasant day, but a massive low air pressure had moved in and brought with it a very changeable wind pattern, this causing four other lads who didn’t do so well to be full of complaints, from 3 of them it was about the weeds, so what about these weeds, they are actually a very important part of the fishing here, as can be demonstrated by the quality of the fish, and there inability to be caught, but the weeds are now mostly due in part to there being a total ban on the use of chemical treatments in fisheries, it is common practise to ignore this ruling, being that the pressure is coming from the anglers to persuade fishery operators to break the rules, in the UK, herbicides’ for aquatic weed control have to be UK licensed, the cost of doing this is prohibitive and the companies who manufacture them are not prepared to spend that amount, however in Europe these products can be very easily and cheaply obtained and without the strict licensing system that we have, the herbicides’ can be bought and brought back into the UK with friendly lorry drivers. Adding to the weed hassle is Fife Council, running around just now, putting up signs for the BLUE GREEN ALGAE, they are completely wrong to say that the fish are contaminated, and must not be eaten, fish do not eat the algae, they are completely unaffected by it, what they should be pointing out is that it is harmful if consumed by HUMANS and DOGS, this weekend has seen a marked improvement in the fishing as the massive low air pressure is moving away and the wind has settled a little, But fishing is for pleasure and enjoyment and I sincerely hope that people that come here appreciate the work and effort that goes into running a fishery, there are plenty fish and plenty of a reasonable size, whether or not you catch zero or loads its up to you to enjoy yourself, this week has seen at least 10 or more anglers catch 9 or more fish.
