July 04th –Week 27-2016
It with great sorrow that we found out this morning that Tam Chalmers, Fort Springs Fishery has passed away, one of life’s more colourful characters, our thoughts are with his family and friends, I am sure that the fishers in Kennoway and surrounds will all miss his personality RIP
Weeds, don’t people just hate weeds, especially anglers, it grows like nothing else, this year is seeing a boom in weed growth, however we have managed to keep the long bank with the jetties and far end of the loch completely weed free, the bottom end that’s the end nearest the boat jetty has now been completely cut and awaits wind and manpower to pull it in, that should happen tomorrow, the worst and hardest patch of weeds to get too, is right in the middle and its really thick, however whilst cutting to day, Sunday the amount of trout being disturbed could only be described as awesome, they were jumping all around the boat, loads of brownies, my theory on the weeds is that we had a really bright warm spell back in late April, two weeks of warm sunny weather, followed by three weeks of rain and it’s the combination of the bright sunshine making the weeds strong growing, followed by the heavy rain that washed loads of nutrients into the loch, these nutrients, nitrogen, phosphate and potash have allowed massive fast weed growth, the big upside is that these weeds eat all the nutrients, and in the weeds we have all the bugs, snails shrimps, stonefly, larvae, also the weeds keep the water clear and free from algae, at the moment the water is fantastically clear allowing the fishing to be amazing, we had a wee blip with a low air pressure for a couple of days, but anglers this weekend have just been delighted at the fishing, Friday was poor but Saturday lunchtime onwards was really good and today with high air pressure great sport. Some guys are getting great sport fishing and others pure frustration as they are catching nothing, without them having a good selection of flies, the fishing was always going to be hard as the fish this year more than any year before are very fly specific.
