Goldenloch jan -19-, week 03, 2015
Weather wise we have a really nice last few days Martin Nicol Perth was here on Friday just his usual quick fishing trip and caught two pretty quickly on a Pheasant Tailed Nymph, Saturday morning saw about a 50% covering in ice and 3 lads here at 8 so told them what Martin was using the day before and between them they had 18 fish, all on PTNs, cant believe it, in the middle of winter, the afternoon saw another few lads but fishing, but this was suspended about 3pm as the sun went down and the eyes on the rods started to ice up, cold was not really the right word to describe how they felt, today Monday, we have a complete covering of ice but I will have to go down and break a bit for the ducks, our grandson was given some ducks from a couple that had reared them from little ducklings for their Christmas lunch, however when the time arrived for the kill and pluck they didn’t have the heart so they gave the ducks to us, O dear, how do we stop Reynard from finding them, well they have just got to take their luck along with the rest of them, at least we have plenty ducks and swans for them to talk with, its quite funny how things like this happen, at the moment we have a huge covey of about 15 partridge wandering around and they are massive everybody feeds them they spend hours under all the bird feeders getting all the grain that the birds waste, we also have a few really big fat pheasants that seem to live on people giving them biscuits and tit bits + the evitable cormorants who thankfully wont be here while the loch is frozen, its that time of year and we all have to look after the wildlife, the ground and water is frozen so some water would be really good and bread and biscuits excellent, however cormorants are exempt from all forms of care even although they are protected.
