Goldenloch february 25 / 2013 week 07
Didn’t expect to be frozen this morning, Monday, albeit its only very thin, as yesterday in the afternoon the temperature had reached a dizzy 12 degrees, we have actually had a very reasonably warm week with nearly every day being around 8,9,10 degrees, the fishing has responded by being pretty fair and lots have caught fish however it’s the old adage unless you adapt and fish to where the fish are and give them what they want you aren’t going to catch anything, this is when the men and the boys get separated, with some lads coming and catching fish making it look easy when its not, classic example was yesterday, I know and the previous weeks catches were all at the far end and up at the old hut however it was really blowing a cold breeze up there and arriving early yesterday and taking up a position at this end of the loch was Eck Burns, Kirkcaldy, Eck who comes here not a lot but reasonably often is one of those kind of guys who could catch fish anywhere and he is good and well armed with every type of fly and lime possible, it wasn’t long before he had cracked a way to catch fish, however a few other lads had arrived by this time and on seeing him catching spent the day hovering or surrounding his position, give them there dues they were catching the odd fish but nothing like as regular as he was Jimmy Gourley and friend, Glenrothes also were fishing both accomplished anglers and both more than able to adapt to the conditions, they also had a good days fishing with I think 5 to the boat and a huge amount of lost fish which again is a sign that the fish are hard to catch just now, Bruce Ingram, Stoke on Trent, fishing with his cousin whilst the ladies were away shopping, had a few fish, Bruce the angler was teaching his cousin and landed himself a 8 / 9 lb rainbow which he said was an amazing fish giving a very good account for itself on returning it so as to fight another day noted that it had a very distinctive red mark on its tail, we will just have to see when it next appears.
