Goldenloch
November 12 / 2012 Week 46
Fishing at this time of year for most can be very frustrating and challenging and yet for some amazingly rewarding, why and how it is so different from day to day is complete mystery not only to me but most that go fishing, I have one gent that says I should rename the Goldenloch to “You should have been here yesterday” at this time of year the biggest factor has got to be the temperature, coupled with the cloudless sky and dull sun, yesterday Sunday looked like it was going to be a great day at 8am it wasn’t that cold it was bright but not dazzling and a small breeze, the day before Saturday had been mild and hazy and with all anglers present catching 4s and 5s and generally having a really good days fishing, so I met Sundays anglers with a smile and offered advice gleaned from the day befores anglers so as to help them start their day, this whilst attending to another complete beginner course, by 10 things had changed quite a lot the wind had turned round and was coming out of the North East, the temperature had fallen about 4 degrees and the sun had gone from being dull to dazzling and the wind punchy and very changeable, luckily most guys had picked up a few fish first thing, as the day panned out bright and cold with the wind dropping completely by 2pm a few fish started showing and again anglers were able to catch using small black and green lures or tadpoles, the day ended well with most having a couple of fish and only one drew a blank, however I really had thought at 7am it was going to be a great day for fishing, Cormorants seem to be back this year in revenge of last winter and it must be my imagination but they seem to be a lot bigger this last week we have had a least a dozen or so every day visit between 7 and 8 am the idea for me is wait until the first one lands give it a crack with the rifle and that scares them all away, but they must go somewhere so someone is losing fish somewhere, many thanks for those handing in equipment but I am sure that a lot more of you are needing new stuff from Santa, we will gratefully accept any fishing gear that needs replaced, we have already helped two brother by giving them a well stocked fly box each courtesy of two benevolent anglers.
