Goldenloch september 17 / 2012 week 38
At last at the Goldenloch after a few days of cooler weather, we seem to have fish being caught reasonably easy, its been good, last night saw several anglers all catch 5 or more, Saturday was quiet mostly due to the air show but for those that were here a few fish were caught using traditional flies, its all been down to the older flies, with one lad yesterday arriving with his dads old fishing tackle consisting of two split cane rods, wicker basket, old knotty net and a massive aluminium box of really old flies, plus many other bits and pieces, never having fished before and after having a look at his stuff, we helped set him up to go fishing, however not with his own gear, as the rods, well one in particular looked pretty flimsy, the reels and lines were a bit old and tired, so we gave him our kit, which we use to teach beginners with, after an hour or twos casting instruction, he was left to get on with a sessions fishing, with him was another angler who was also fishing from the bank and the two went up to the old fishing hut and it wasn’t till they had finished that I learnt that as darkness fell the both of them had started to catch fish using his really old flies neither lad knew what flies they were catching fish on but with both lads returning with 3 each and smiles on there faces it was obvious that they had enjoyed themselves and that’s what it should be, this week we have had a few beginners and it like to think potentially a few new anglers in Scotland, however its really hard when a beginner don’t catch something, Its really sad to hear that two anglers died at Gladhouse reservoir, I can only reiterate that we have lifejackets here for your benefit please put them on its for your safety.
