Goldenloch may 21 / 2012 week 21
Main topic at the Goldenloch this week is the Algae which is just lying there doing nothing, with several water samples now been taken and sent for analysis we now know that both the nitrogen levels and phosphate levels are much higher than they should be, but for us to get comparisons I took two samples out of other waters locally neither of which have an algae problem and was surprised that their readings were very similar, in fact one had a slightly higher N reading, for those of you that keep fish you will understand that we seem to be dealing with a force of nature that does its own thing, with even more straw bales now added to the loch we will just have to wait and see what happens, one of the problems is that this past week has seen a pretty boring kind of week. neither sunny, nor windy, nor cold, it was just a very boring week which doesn’t help, algae needs sun to make it breed and then it will burn itself out, what about the fishing well for those that have tried I would say that considering the conditions people have done extremely well, with some lads getting 5 and 5 fish, we are still doing beginner classes and this past week we have had 5 complete beginners catch fish with one lad getting 2 all on his own, last week saw a group from a local hotel come for basic lessons with one lad catching a good 3+lb fish which he then jumped into the loch to catch, when we told him that’s what the net was for he just said that in Brazil they don’t have nets, other catches this week include Alec Millar Cupar 4 plus 1 realised for 10lbs, Robert Henderson, Livingston 3 for 9lbs with the last tagged fish now caught which weighed in at a healthy 3.5lbs, Chuffed he commented that as he was out of work some free fishing would be well appreciated.
