Goldenloch april 02 / 2012 week 14
Fly Fishing at the Goldenloch has pretty much started a month earlier than what I would have said was normal, in years gone past it was always on or about the week after Easter that the big jackets would come off and the waistcoats takeover, it would be then that the fish would start rising and be seen in the early mornings, this last week starting the 25th March the fish were positively active from 5am in the morning, we are still getting a little bit of bother from the cormorants so early morning visits down to the water are required just to stop them landing in the loch, so what does it all mean well for a start the fish seem to have gone of lures and bloodworms and we are back in the world of buzzers, nymphs and wet flies, its all good news catches have been pretty good we had a couple of hard days on Monday and Tuesday due to flat calm and 23 degree sunshine but the anglers present all enjoyed there days fishing with the odd fish being caught, however on both those days the fishing in the evenings could best be described as outstanding with the sun setting, the water just burst into life, a lot of big catches this week and a few really nice fish caught, Martin Nicol, Perth returned 5 using a Pheasant Tailed Nymph, John Leckie Strathmiglo returned 6 Diawl Bachs, Alec Burns, Kirkcaldy returned 15 as did Sam Ovenstone who caught and returned a tagged fish, Don Stewart, Glasgow returned 7 with his partner John Gray getting 2 for 7lbs returning 3, the water was a little coloured last week due to the sun and previous winds, but today Monday 2 April it seems to have cleared a lot and the weed that floated to the surface is slowly making its way to the shore.
