Week ending 25/10/04 goldenloch all over the loch its never been better
Water levels at the Goldenloch have never been at full discharge for such a long period as it has been this year, since mid August the two overflow pipes have been at full capacity, however surprisingly the water in the loch has never been as clear as this before, a programme of water management this season has paid of handsomely as we treated the loch for algae and weeds in February and April and this has given anglers the best seasons fishing ever. Anglers have praised the quality of the fish size and fighting ability and have been surprised at the lack of the usual weed problems that can affect most small lochs, however the delicate part is in not removing the weeds as this is where the fly hatches occur and this year even now we are still getting rises that see fish moving and feeding in all areas of the loch. Mr Stewart Fenton and Mr Paul Thomson Markinch had on a very wet day 3 each Paul getting a 5 lb Blue trout and both lads returning 6 each, and Mr Colin Neville Springfield needing a fish for supper took 1 at 4lbs returning 5 all on a Diawl Bach, also using a Diawl Bach was Stevie Harper Glenrothes catching 3 for 8lbs at the far end of the loch Stevie commented that there were fish feeding regularly on small black larvae and taking flies on the surface, as this is traditionally the olive damsel season we have to mention Ian Wallace and his buddy who on more than a few trips have had maximum catches both lads just cant do anything wrong, also on Olive Damsels were Mr R Millet and C Bowman, Kirkcaldy getting 3 each for a total of 15lbs Mr Bowman’s best was a handsome 4.5lbs.
