Goldenloch october 17-2011
Fishing this last week at the Goldenloch has been a pretty mixed, both with the weather and the how the fish were behaving, the week days were all reasonable good weather and catches were steady, anglers getting best results fishing in the top foot of water with nymphs’, sedges, hares ears and getting good catches, Allan Gibson fishing from the bank had 8 in an hour using home tied diawl bachs and vicars knickers, a few anglers were using dry flies, some were getting fairly good results, however there were a couple of strange days when the fishing for a short period was almost impossible, due to sudden high winds, these would last for about an hour, Saturday morning was like that with anglers arriving only to be met with a loch that looked like the mid Atlantic, however an hour later and all was calm again, Colin Laird Markinch fished using his one man canoe, catching 4 using only dry flies, this unique boat is a lightweight American design, Colin had it imported into the UK and is a novel way to fish, it is his intension to use it on many of Scotland’s remote hill lochs, Sunday was a strange day and although a few fish were caught during the day it was a tough day for some and didn’t really get going till late afternoon, the fish just were not playing at all during the day, but it was one of the calmest days in the last week and followed a really cold night, however it did pick up and J Dixon, Perth, caught 2 in his last couple of casts, Dave Stewart Newburgh arriving late had 2 for 6lbs and returned 6
