Goldenloch january-31-11
Monday morning and the loch is completely free of ice the first time in 2011, but that’s not to say that in the last week or so there has been no one fishing, some days with only the area about the size of a tennis court we have had anglers here and catching the odd fish or two, Martin Nicol, Perth had 3 fishing in a tiny space on the far side, but I think that the first real official angler this year was Magnus Gloak, Perth who turned up on Saturday got in a boat and fished normally, catching 4 returning all with 2 at about 3.5lbs, using a varying amount of orange flies, the first load of fish for the new season are stock trout and are due this week these fish were due to be put in on the first week of December and are generally around about the 1.75 > 2.00 lb size, strangely on examination of the water the insect life is really abundant with water beetles, small shrimp and loads of other small crustaceans so there really was a lot going on under the ice.
