Goldenloch august-09-10
The past week at the Goldenloch has seen the fishing at its best for a long time, with anglers catching fish on nearly any method, for those wishing to use dry flies small seems to be the best, however Mr Hancock, Glenrothes was using a really large hopper, it was his first attempt at fly tying, and he caught a crackin Blue trout, of 4.5lbs which took him down to his backing twice, eventually he was able to release it back after letting it recover, using buzzers the Burns brothers, Glenrothes, had a great evening on Saturday as did Kenny and Joe Purvis, Lochgelly, with a large proportion of anglers now returning many more fish it is making the catching of fish here a lot easier as the stocking level is probably higher than its ever been before, so then it is fortunate then that we have been getting a steady rainfall to keep freshening the water and cooling down the loch, however if anglers arrive and the aerators are on please stay well clear from them, causing concern for some guys are the fish that can be seen jumping well clear of the water, they are actually cleaning their gills of mud, this you can hear and see as they jump, there is a distinct burring noise as the shake their mouths and gills in the air to clear them of mud, and why are they doing this , its because of the dense amount of feeding on the loch bottom that is attracting them, I am not sure just how good or bad other lochs are fishing at the moment, but here at the Goldenloch there is a distinct lack of hatching flies, for this time of year, some days and nights we are seeing a small hatch but it is nothing like it should be, last week or rather two weeks ago it was getting good, and on top fishing was the right method, but these really warm days has seen the water warm up quickly and the sun start to create algae, this year we seeded the water with an organic anaerobic bug that is supposed to stop algae forming, it is really for using in large garden ponds but it seems to be working well here as we have still got quite clear water only on a really hot day does it try to form at the sides and even then its in lumps.
