Goldenloch june-28-10
This last week at the Goldenloch has been extremely hot with the Sun shinning very bright, every day anglers have just been basking in the sunlight, obviously the fishing has been quite difficult in these conditions, but still a fair amount of fish have been caught, on scanning through the catches book, almost everyone has caught at least 2 fish, the water is clear with great visibility, surprisingly after this hot spell, the free moving surface algae that was attempting to form has gone away, the weed (Chara) is now dropping down much lower in the water and the area next to the long west bank is free completely, however if you were fishing a gold headed fly you would still catch weed if you let your fly go too deep, right in the middle of the loch around the large rock and beyond, there is an area that I have not touched regarding weed pulling or cutting this because it seems that the weed we have, is the best weed ever or rather algae, as it consumes phosphates and nitrates from the water, it will never come through the surface, it harbours massive amounts of insect life and gives great shading for the fish, anglers that have adapted to fishing around and above it absolutely swear that the fishing is by far the best ever and just fantastic, so now you understand why I am loathe to get rid of it, when it is only bothering a few that are fishing with heavy lures and goldheads, a bit of bad news is that two signets died this week when they got tangled up with fishing lines down their throats, what was tragedy was the fact that this happened on land and that the two lines had been rolled up and discarded it, looks like the two birds had picked it up and choked on them, please we provide bins put old line tins bottles rubbish in the bins, you wouldn’t leave trash in your own garden.
