Goldenloch apr-26-10
The Last week in April at the Goldenloch traditionally sees the fishing starting to get into summer mode, and this for many is the beginning of pleasurable days sitting on the boat or bank in nice warm sunshine catching a few fish, for the past few weeks however we have seen a fair bit of wind and cold, its pretty noticeable here that the hawthorn and flowering shrubs still have no sign of buds yet and that the Rhododendron bushes have just started to flower so what does mean, well I would say it explains a lot especially the days when the fishing seemed to go off, we have had in the last week a couple of days when you would think their were no fish in the loch yet the next day it would be fishing like it was mid summer with fish rising everywhere, it was on Wednesday that it was at its worst and fair to say one lad blanked and commented that he would never be back, this is quite sad as every fishing loch operator will tell you that we go out our way to try and make the anglers visit as pleasurable as possible, he still had the opportunity to catch fish he just didn’t have the ability, like most fisheries we have more fish in the water than ever before at this time of year, and give the breeders their dues the quality of the fish is far superior now than it was a few years ago, size wise as well we stock 1 kilo upwards when 6 years ago it was 1.5 lbs to 1.75 lbs about half the size. Another big problem this year is the Osprey and Cormorants, however I am trying to stay reasonable cool about it but if anyone has an idea of how to make them go somewhere else I would love to here about it, last Monday, for example saw 16 trips by ospreys, OK you would think that would just be 16 trout, no chance as the fish are quite large it cant lift them so it just sticks in its talons and munches the fish for a few minutes and then after half a dozen or so failed attempts to fly it lets go and then we have another dead fish, the cormorants, well it’s a case of getting up at 5.30am and just making sure they stay away, So what about the fishing, its fishin good just now on very slow retrieves on very small black wets and buzzers, an a lot of visitors are having really good times, especially if you get here when the suns out.
