Goldenloch july27-07-09
Monday the 20th of July saw a huge change in the weather at the Goldenloch, we had all the conditions that night for a big thunderstorm, it hit all round about us but not with us, if you see what I mean, and that night the fishing changed, the fish just went down and stayed down, for 4 or 5 days the fishing was probably the hardest it has been for years, it went from everyone catching their limits plus more, to anglers getting blanks, and because we are getting over one of the weediest years ever, some of the comments from anglers were, well just a bit coloured, however this weekend especially Sunday night seems to have seen a return to normal, with some anglers getting reasonably good catches, the problem for the past few days has been that the fish just were not interested in anything that was presented to them, and that the fish were just swimming up to flies and turning away or past or just ignoring the flies, the loch stocking of fish is very high and with another load due to-day we are probably at a point where we have to stop putting in fish, July has always been hard fishing, not just here but everywhere, and most anglers know and understand that they have to adapt their techniques to be able to catch fish, however the past week has seen many lads using lures with intermediate and sinking lines, just not what is going to catch fish at this time of year, on explaining to them that small dry flies were the only ones that were catching fish, the usual reply was that they had tried dry flies, before without success and the way they enjoyed fishing with was to strip flies through the water or fish with buzzers by stripping them through the water, we have on hand people that can teach or demonstrate how to fish using dry flies if you are interested, just let me know your name and we can arrange something.
