Dry Fly Fishing at the Goldenloch this year is much better than its ever been before, the conditions at the moment are ideal with crystal clear water, but most importantly fish that are constantly coming up for something to eat, however the late evening rise is spectacular with hundreds of fish rising and twisting feeding on something that is hatching in the water, The weed is a bit of a problem, but only in certain areas and as it has grown so fast this year, trying to pull it out has been almost impossible but now it seems to have slowed down or rather it has probably reached its full size, The most successful flies as far as we can determine in the last week has been small hares ears, klinkhammer, and greenwells, however some people have still been doing well on Green buzzers, Sunday saw everyone catch their full bag with several fish being caught in the 3 to 4 lb range, R McCleary, Dundee, had 2 for 11bs 3oz , and Saturday saw Don Stewart, Glasgow catch a 6lb rainbow, in his bag plus returning 3 or 4, this is definitely the year of the C & R, since about 5 weeks ago nearly every angler coming here has caught and released at least an average of 4 to 5 fish and it also looks like one of the reasons why the loch is fishing so well, when we count every week the fish that have been removed from the loch it has been observed that the number is approximately half the amount of fish compared to previous years are being removed for roughly the same amount of anglers, anglers are becoming much more conservation minded and only killing when they wish to take a fish home, but it must also be said that the angler of to-day is a much kinder and more talented than his predecessor, we no longer have the aggressive, must catch, must kill types, who trawl round the loch annoying everyone, but rather the chaps who enjoy their fishing time and want to just relax in a pleasant atmosphere.
