Goldenloch 18/05/2009
Fly Fishing at the Goldenloch has been ongoing since my Father and Mother opened it to the public in the winter of 1985 and since that day we have only been closed for anglers about 10 days not bad for a small fishing loch, I have been looking back over the old catches books and booking books and in 1986 the price for fishing was £12 for a 4 fish limit, however 250 2lb rainbows cost at that time £200 or about 80 pence each, to-day we are £15 for 2 fish, but the fish cost £4 – £5 each depending on the size, however it has to be said that the suppliers are definitely supply a much better quality trout and very much harder fighting fish as many of the anglers fishing here this year have commented on, what is not so good is the weather we have lost more days fishing in the last two years to wind than ever before or is it that the anglers are much softer than they used to be, but very much to blame is the absolutely stupid weather forecast we have been getting, for the last 4 or 5 weeks the forecasters’ have predicted wild wet weekends when in actual fact they have turned out really nice, one of my anglers commented that he reckons it is a government plan to get the public into the high street to kick-start the economy, but certainly the weekends have been a lot quieter than usual, so hows it fishin, well its really good just now and the bank anglers are getting great catches, in fact some would say the bank fishing is steadier as the fish are getting caught more regularly, whats workin, well it seems that black buzzers are the favourite by far, but it has to be said that the tadpole hatch is now well on its way and the fish will soon become a lot more particular as this is what happened last year
