Goldenloch 11/05/2009
Fly fishing at the Goldenloch has probably never been easier than it is just now and we think that it is the result of a combination of factors that have happened in the last few months, we have had a lot of warm one day and cold the next day which has tended to keep the water temperature low but the other effect was to drive down the fish, also we have had a huge amount of heavy wind especially on coldish days again having the effect of driving down the fish, this year we have never seen so much changing wind conditions with the wind blowing one minute from the west and then the north and then changing again all day, this certainly does not help the fish decide where to be, and makes for unsettled fishing, this year has also seen the biggest ever influx of cormorants which definitely had the effect of driving down and terrorising the fish as they swam amongst them, very much it was noted that on mornings when they were here no fish could be seen moving or getting caught till late afternoon, the Osprey on the other had soars high above and swoops down and grabs a fish taking it away they do not have the same terror characteristics as the cormorant, Back to the fishing anglers have had fantastic sport in the last few weeks and now that the swallows and house martins are back we can start to think soon we will have real rising feeding fish and maybe a great dry fly season, good signs for this are beginning to show there is a huge buzzer population this year, the floor of the loch seems to have a massive amount of bloodworm content and there is a steadying of the weather with each day getting slightly warmer. Now that the fishing is much better, and if you find that you have found a really hot spot and caught say 6 or 7 fish please consider others who may be beginners or just haven’t caught anything and move to accommodate them on that point here at the Goldenloch, bank anglers have the right to fish before boat so if you are in a boat stay away from the bank anglers.
