Goldenloch 18/08/2008
Water levels at the Goldenloch have been restored after one particularly heavy nights rain, I don’t think that this has ever happened before, it has made the loch much fresher and given the water a nice crystal shine, fish are still rising all day and catches have been steady, but interestingly the fishing is still very much tuned to certain types of flies or nymphs and can be seen feeding all day, this past weekend saw some lads arrive with just large lures and they struggled to catch fish it is just not that time of year, why do they come without small wets or even small lures, after they came of the water I asked what like a season they had been having and it transpired that there previous venues were all stocked fisheries and that this was their first visit to a loch, a totally different type of fishing, but the good thing was it had made them well aware that the fish here did not like what they were offering and that their was a lot more to fly fishing than they had been aware of, in the past week we have seen some really good catches from old fashioned flies J Jordan Kelty caught 3 using a Loch Ordie as did W Graves Livingstone, Colin Jeffrey, and L Dick, Auchtermuchty had a great night with both catching 9 each using buzzers as did Brian Stewart and W Robertson, Dundee, Jim Ward Kirkcaldy did well with 4 returned using dry flies as did Hamish McKenzie from Anstruther his comments were that the fish fought like they were possessed and did not want to be retrieved.
