Another few cold days again, but surely time is moving on, definitely things will get better quite quickly, after this wee cold spell, I mean it is mid-March, it is time to start getting the fishing bags sorted out, make sure you know where your rod is Etc, Rod Thaw, managed to catch 22 on, buzzers, George Duff Buckhaven, fishing this afternoon amongst moving fish had 6 cracking fish on Black and Red Buzzers and snatchers , with the past really cold weather it’s been a fairly quiet week, a flat calm one day, allowed me to look deep into the crystal clear water, especially when the sun was behind me, I was pleasantly surprised at some of the areas that I thought were weedy, they are not that bad, but also interesting was that I could see some fish, they were just lying on the bottom, static, all bunched together, once you got your eye in you could see loads, that’s what I assume the cormorants can see from above, and why they are always landing in the same areas, extremely pleasing to note that there is very little weed in the margins all round the edges, one day I also had a long and interesting conversation from a salesperson about using this, {Non-toxic, eco-friendly dye which will control algae and aquatic weeds that often cause serious problems, interfering with fishing, boating, swimming, and irrigation. The extremely dense growths of filamentous algae and submerged weeds that also cause serious problems to fish, as a result of night-time oxygen depletion, will also be controlled.} this was the claim about the product he was trying really hard to sell me, I couldn’t believe what he was saying, I know that by using proper water management, in a natural fishing loch, you should see the water being gin clear and super healthy, yes using Dye is a very easy and quick answer to weed control, I also asked what the ingredients were that make this dye up, his wonder cure, which he couldn’t tell me as he didn’t know, also they are not on the labels, then I asked if it was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, again he didn’t know, so basically this stuff is an unknown product that fisheries are pouring into their water all because it makes weed control easy, who would do that. What I do know, which I told him was that there are very strict rules about dumping chemicals into watercourses, that unless they are approved and included in The UK Pesticides Guide then they can’t be used. Dyes are notorious Carcinogens, as such should never be put near watercourses.
