Fishery Blog, Monday, 27/11/2022.
The ground around the loch is like a waterlogged Serengeti, it is a virtual swamp, however it is noticeable that now the fish are close in to the margins, especially at the far end of the loch, where we have our unofficial wild life area, so this is where we positively encourage birds plus any other wildlife animals to take cover and refuge from the vagaries of being a fishery, nothing changes here it is a place where time just stands still, however the recent heavy rains have seen flooding around the reed beds and grassy areas within the boundaries, as a result lots of spiders worms ants insects etc, have been washed or carried by the wind into the loch, trout never miss a trick and see these insects as potential grub, which is what is happening, some lads have done amazingly well up at the far end George Duff today had 11 when I spoke with him and Rod Thaw complete with his new rod had 13 when I spoke to him at lunchtime, others all have done well there Mr Bowman gave up on Friday due mostly to the bitter cold, But Brian had 4 in a couple of hours, the pictures today are from the still foggy morning after the storm also there is one from Lindores showing how high the water level is, I tried to count the amount of cormorants in the roost but gave up at 30 which wasn’t even ½ of them.
