We are trying now to deal swiftly with this weed which is growing relentlessly, it is worst we have ever had, why is it like this we will never know, all we can do is make assumptions firstly here we have a shallow water it is not a reservoir which are designed for deep water storage, the types of weed that grow in reservoirs tends to be round the edges,[ Reeds, rushes, Bulrushes, Norfolk Grass, and the common rush ( that’s the spiky one)] as that is where the weeds can survive easiest, over 2 meters and it’s too deep for them to survive, in our water and others that are similar it is a constant battle to keep on top of the weed which seems to have adapted to the current climate, but our weed is different in that it seems to have adapted to grow long and bushy, but there are still loads of areas that lads can fish amongst the weedy patches, and anglers can get excellent catches albeit using dry flies and fishing of the surface and in the best humour available someone said to me this week “ you can try as hard as you want but nature always wins” George Duff Buckhaven in a boat this week had 9 all returned using dries and emergers, Pete and Jamie having a lot of fun had 1 trout to the net a few lost and 13 perch, John Bashford 5 returned using a yellow owl, Rod Thaw had his best day ever on buzzers and CDCs, Sandy Band another having a good day with 10 returned, as did Lloyd John, the trio S Cameron 6, R Cameron 2, and S Cooke 1, all using various dries CDC Shipman, Yellow Owls a nice relaxing evening was had, A Morgan and Alec Cuthbert probably having their best ever day 12 each, Malcolm Brown, Dundee on his own after a disastrous day last week, when the wind beached him, made up for that with 3, B Finnie first ever trout on the fly on a green Hopper, Ali Radhi with his mate Neil Rarity had 15 on daddies and damsels, great catches and a lot of fun had by all.
