“The Goldenloch” 22/05/2022,
Fishery Blog, May, Monday, Week 21.
The wind has been spoiling what should be good fishing just now, there are fish rising everywhere and people are having a really good time, but it’s the constant wind that is bothering lads in boats, plus it changes direction so many times, the bank fishing has been harder of late, mostly due to the massive amount of insects and available food out in the middle of the loch, but that is changing and there are some good catches from the jetties, anglers are really enjoying there catches just now with dry flies in the conversations, people show each other their adaptions in what they think the fish are interested in, Brian Kemp Alias the ”Kaptain” is someone who took up fly tying a couple of years ago, and now ties all his own using barbless hooks, he really enjoys his fishing is using 8 lb fluorocarbon and had another mysterious break, which is annoying him, as he is meticulous about his knots and leaders, however yesterday, Sunday, he caught and released 5 plus he dropped 2 all on his own creations which for him is something special, but it was all about what people were using Brian Dewar had a amazing day and with Eck Burns they spent most of the day at the far end of the loch, the weed has arrived with vengeance this year, so some serious weed pulling is about to happen in the next few days its just a symptom of Global Warming I am afraid and it will affect different things in many ways, the wildlife has been slow to show itself this year but there seems to be some now, although swallows and swift numbers are low in numbers, Kenneth O Keefe photographer has taken more superb pictures, a wee bit anger this week as an angler was caught with a couple of fish after he had paid for a catch and release ticket, this will not to be tolerated and there will be more inspections to wipe out this happening, if people want to kill fish let me know beforehand but do not assume that it is OK to kill
