“The Goldenloch” 28/02/2022, Fishery Blog, Week 09.
Since I Last wrote it’s been cold, very cold, but things will change, it will happen quickly and then we I hope will have lots of nice days, I can’t wait for this to happen, we have had a few cormorants visiting in the last few weeks, mostly because of the bad weather out in the estuaries and the North sea, which has been so bad, these birds feed on the shoals of fish in the sea, also on the fish that are thrown back into the water from the trawlers, but they are roosting birds, using the oil rigs, boats etc, old war time instillations, anything that is available, down at Lindores Loch there is a tree that has been a roost for a long time, I can’t remember when there wasn’t cormorants in it, the fishing just now is pretty poor, mostly due to the coloured water, it clears quickly in a spell of settled weather but this last week has seen continual wind, the fishing suffers likewise, the fish are forced down due mostly to the winds and the waves, also because of the cormorants terrorising them, they go into hiding and do not freely start to move about again for some hours, but being honest the water temp is 2.8 degrees, nothing is hatching so therefore there is nothing for the fish to chase or even want to feed on, the fishing results for the past few days show that to be the case, some time ago I ordered fish to start arriving in March, which starts tomorrow, so I am expecting a load any day now and that should spruce things up a bit as I would imagine that the only fish being caught lately are newly stocked this should bring the catches up a bit, however John Bowman, Dundee did well catching 6 on green Montana, likewise Rod Thaw on 6 using black Green Buzzers, Geoff Gadd using a red Cormorant on 3, J Souter Auchtermucty had 1 plus a few offers, but was persevering on the coldest of days, this last week and the one before in looking up my old diaries are traditionally the hardest weeks of the year to catch fish, a quick look at my weather station and I can see the outside temp is 8.2 degrees, no rain forecast, light winds, and the air pressure slowly rising all good The “Goldenloch Fishery” offers Boat or Bank fishing or both, superb location in North East Fife, Quiet, Relaxing, no background noise, beginners welcome, abundant wildlife.
