“The Goldenloch” 12-12-2021, Fishery Blog, Week 50.
This year has been a proper roller coaster for everyone, managers, operators, and anglers, the weather is completely rubbish. Lately I have been studying some of my farming diaries and some of my dad’s, these books contain seasonal notes, mostly connected with farming, however a lot of the comments made refer to the rainfall, the wind and temperatures, without doing a detailed analysis on what the weather has done since 1960 and comparing it with the weather now, but it has allowed me to give a comparison, in reading these books you can see that the recent years have definitely been a lot different, we had a lot of years when it was very wet in the 80s and 90s again in the mid 2010 era, however what I noticed the most was in the past 3 years the temperature has regularly been down to zero or nearly, in November and December, where it was more normal in the months January to March, back in the 1980 till 2012 ish, really cold February’s were quiet common with hard frost and a good snowfall, the loch being frozen a lot more back 30 years ago, in today’s weather it is surprising that it is frozen for longer than 3 weeks, we have to just enjoy what is going to happen, so long as the water is free from ice, anglers are most welcome, some great catches this week, the Bentley boys had a great day on a boat, with A Morgan and A Cuthbert having 16, the same day Robert Hayne had 7 he was fishing off the bank, Jim Souter, Auchtermucty catching 5 from the bank in the boat corner, with Scott Fraser, Dundee in a boat 5 as well Scott fished all over the loch and saw fish everywhere, Stewart Cameron having a day of work caught and released 4, enjoying his relaxing days fishing, One thing about the fishing just now is anglers are seeing a lot of fish as well as getting loads of offers making there day interesting Rod Thaw on 7 released, John Cowie, Perth having as he said his best day ever with 6 returned, followed by George Duff, on the bank returning 9, his comment was in the afternoon there was most definitely a Hatch.
