“The Goldenloch”
19-September-2021, Fishery Blog, Week 38.
So I think we have arrived at the point we were at in April, clear water, plenty fish, anglers are enjoying siting in boats catching fish that they can see, with visibility easily 10 / 14 feet or more, fish can be seen at a 2 / 3 feet depth, just slowly cruising or even being static, the thing to be able to do, is present them with something they want to eat, (HA HA) the feeding in the water is immense just now, (Blue shrimp, pond skimmers, worms, crustaceans, beetles, larva,) but there is a new tasty morsel about in the form of young perch or minnows, which all the trout are loving, anglers are getting a hearty laugh as well, these little fish enjoy many of the flies anglers are using, brownies are starting to move again as we move nearer October, its all good, thank goodness, my new weapon {the mean Machine} in pulling the weed works a treat making life so much easier, with some of the old fashioned weedkillers proven to be carcinogenic, they are now banned materials, it is vital that weed control in fisheries is by pulling or cutting, what we don’t want is a connection between someone getting ill and fish that are contaminated, but the loch here is looking really good, plenty fish, beginners catching, dry flies working well, even Mr Wilson back after a long harvest farming experience had a good day plus catching a perch, yet when I read the book I notice Robbie and Mr Gadd had a blank, likewise Jock Souter, these I can only attribute to the exceptional bright high Sun days, But I must mention that Leslie Michell Dunfermline returned 10, on a day where he had planned to go somewhere else, what now, well a winter stocking regime is being planned with Prime fish being introduced, many anglers have commented lately about the fish and yes I have changed suppliers, I buy best quality 1 Kilo trout, with the natural feeding available here they grow quickly, are strong turning into hard fighting fish, we do not stock large stock fish we do not need too, anglers really enjoy trying to catch our as near as you can get to natural fish, I am careful not to say “wild” as they arnt but perhaps they are better, they certainly taste good, many will vouch for that, Thursdays seem to have turned into senior citizen days, boat or bank till the end of October on a Thursday it will be an OAP day at £10 / head C & R for a half day or if a kill ticket is needed it is £15 for 1 fish half day, the 1st of January will see a price rise over the board as making money just now is pretty hard, they weather this year compared to last is so different perhaps a nice autumn season is on the cards.
Fly Fishing is a Pastime, it is not only relaxing, but also rewarding, both mentally and physically, come to the “Goldenloch” enjoy your Hobby to the max, no stress, only tranquil surroundings abundant wildlife, great fish, Brown, Blues and Rainbows, you will not be disappointed.
