Week ending 28/may/07 goldenloch
At last a week when the catches book reads like it should, in the last week the fishing has improved a lot, the huge amount of tadpoles seems to be depleting, and the fish are on the hunt for something else, however an observation by several anglers is that the fishes snouts are rubbed red, a sure sign that they have been foraging in the mud as well as the fact that the evening temperatures are still very low, thus the massive amount of bloodworms on the loch bed are just getting fatter and not turning into buzzers and rising to the surface, the fish are just gorging them as they find it easy feeding, we dissected two fish on Tuesday and the stomachs were full of just exactly the above as well as snails or shrimps, its been a strange year due mostly to the fact that the days are bright and warm and give us humans the feeling that summer has arrived yet evening anglers have almost every night complained about the bitter cold adding it all up hopefully now things should get a little warmer in the evenings, 10 or 12 lads from Buckhaven High School had an outing here on Friday past courtesy of Masters Spence and Fulton, these two intrepid anglers are regulars here and brought the lads as a field trip to introduce them to the world of fly fishing, a very enjoyable day was had by all, with a BBQ thrown in for lunch, Russell Crierson 1 at 2lbs , R Smart 1 at 2lbs and J Small 1 at 2lbs all caught using cats whiskers, several fish were caught and lost before they could be landed as everyone was using debarbed hooks purely on a point of safety, Saturday saw everyone catching fish, P Fleming 3 for 7lbs , B Milton 2 for 5lbs ,B Tolmie 2 for 4lbs and D Logie 2 for 4.5lbs, however it must be said that the fishing is much better from 8am till about 2pm and then again at 8pm till 10pm
