“The Goldenloch”
February-17th-2020-Week 7
Not much to say about what’s been happening here, apart from the wind this afternoon and evening, Sunday wind has probably been the strongest for a few years, a lot of weeds have been getting torn up and the water is now well coloured, It is disgusting that boats have been stolen from a neighbouring fishery, the demand for boats this year is very high, recently there have been a few calls from people looking for boats, my source that deals in boats is now aware of this theft and will let me know if he is offered any, he has a few to sell but wants a biggish price, he knows that new boats are ridiculously expensive, even oars are £150 for a pair of 3m ones, so at this time of year I am busy refurbishing my own boats as they get a fair bit of bashing etc, I have been looking for some big anchors, if any body has any for sale, mind you there must be a few in the bottom of the loch, I just need to find them, Alec Burns is the guy for finding anchors, its not been a busy week but it is mid-February, Sandy Band, Perth, out twice a week and doing well in all weather conditions, Harold and Eddie doing there stuff, but the banking is pretty well saturated now, Brian Stewart, Dundee had two on Wednesday but the rain was relentless, New large Nets all round the Loch, these are on extendable fibreglass handles, you just have to figure them out, the stocking this year is well underway and the fish should be pretty well acclimatised to the water, feeding and generally hard to catch, its all about the right fly now, last year I removed my restrictions on fly types, but I genuinely would like to think that all flies used now will be barbless or debarked by crushing the barb, I don’t really mind blobs or bungs it’s the snakes and wotsits I don’t like, they are a very cheap nasty easy way to catch fish, in the past I have watched guys just heaving in fish, alongside guys that actually enjoy the challenge, the mastering of getting the right fly at the right depth, speed and technique, I may be old fashioned but Fly Fishing is a day out it’s a day for relaxing, taking in the environment, but most importantly its your day that you have earned the time to come here and enjoy, so sorry if the fish aren’t two or three day old mega stockies but they are top quality naturalised Brownies, Blues and Rainbows.
Fly Fishing is a Pastime, it is not only relaxing, but also rewarding, come to the “Goldenloch” enjoy your Hobby to the max, no stress, only tranquil surroundings abundant wildlife, great fish, Brown, Blues and Rainbows, you will not be disappointed.
