“Goldenloch”
October-28th– 2019, Week 42
Freezing cold that’s what it is and it started on Saturday 26th, October, few anglers out and the fish were deep down, Brian Dewar had 2 but the old made him give up at 11 am, due mostly to the freezing wind, Rod Thaw at that point had 2, likewise as did Grant, but as the day progressed the temperature slowly warmed, Rod ending up with 9, Grant 8, later about 4pm father and son Robert Alston arrived, staying locally at a farm B and B, they hired some equipment and fished till 7, father 3 son 7 all on lures and bloodworms, Sunday again was freezing and with 6 anglers again it was a very slow start picking up as the day went on, the water has an amazing clarity just know and it is a delight that we have no Osprey nor cormorants, however there are buzzards sitting in the trees surrounding the loch for some strange reason, but the up side is a few robins about and believe it or not some house martins, a fantastic year for berries with lots of Rowan and hawthorn, even the holly bushes are groaning at the amout of berries, the work we did on the side of the loch last year has worked well, especially considering the traffic that has gone over it in the wettest of days, with all the talk lately on the telly about CO2, planting trees, not a lot of people will know this but in 1988 the Government introduced a finical grant to encourage people to plant woodlands, on poor land, the picture below of the Black Loch, behind it on the horizon, shows my contribution to helping the environment, basically 65000 trees planted up on the hill, trees that represent every species found in the UK and |Europe, not all planted by me I must add but a good few thousand maybe 15 to 17 thou, I was much fitter then and a very determined person, I used to take my kids with me on the quad it was great fun. Today Monday was a good day with lads fishing doing very well whilst I with help am renovating boats.
