Goldenloch
September-03rd– Week-35-2018
We are back in business OPEN FOR FISHING, we are well on the way to recovery, and back to normal, its been a bit like a slow healing process, this brown algae and I am sure there are plenty people out there that know and understand the workings of algae’s , In our case it would seem that the huge and rapid growth of the weeds in the loch this year due mostly to the unusual amount of sunshine and high temperatures of the water, caused the weeds in certain areas to grow exceptionally fast, likewise the cold rainfall in the last few weeks the associated flush of Phosphates and Potash into the loch from the fields, the weeds naturally dying back, due to the sudden cold, all happened suddenly, the green leaves that contained high levels of chlorophyll, which basically produces oxygen changed suddenly to brown, dead leaves, that is what caused the brown taint in the water, According to the experts the Oxygen level dropped because the plants died back very quick, the fish then became lethargic, Friday past saw pretty much clear water again but we have given ourselves another couple of days just to make sure all is good, the fishing is still very slow but that is just normal for this time of year, unless of course it’s a fishery that is stocking weekly, Rod Thaw had a good day on Saturday several returned as did Ian Wallace and his 4yr old grandson and at night youngsters Hamish, Richard, Frank and Lucy all had 3 or 4 each, which were all returned, almost certain there has been no loss of fish, to this event, but we will stock a load tomorrow just to chivvy things up, The Goldenloch is about as natural a water as you can get, most inland lochs and waters aren’t that deep and weed is a natural process, it used to be easy to control with herbicides, but now they are all banned substances, a lot of hard work goes into having to keep fisheries relatively weed free or as best as possible, reservoirs’ are deep and that means the weeds cant grow, but then neither can the insects and pond life, so there has to be a balance, but the one savoir to everyone is that, quality fish can be got often by a quick call and often delivered the same day, any size and as many as you want, today’s pictures are all oldies are just for fun.
