Goldenloch
A lot colder these past few days, its gone from 12 to 9, and maybe a wee bit lower, however some of the wind is out the East, giving it an extra chill, the net result is that the fish are much lower in the water, a lot more fussy, but on any given day on any water in the UK, there are some guys that are just plain good at catching fish, Steve Smart, Strathmiglo, here on Saturday evening and again on Sunday evening had 12 both times using red nymphs’, the thing about the way Steve fishes, is that he waits and only casts over a rising or moving fish, this makes it seem so easy and also makes it look like he is a genius angler, which he is, but he has done that for years and he really loves his fishing, the lads from Livingstone / Forth had a much better day today, this time despite the cold, they all had reasonable bags of fish to take home, with a few 3lbs or more, but they were a we bit shell shocked, firstly in watching Brian Dewar catching a good few fish, who despite the cold had a pretty good day and then to see Steve turn up late, and just start plucking them out the water, over the winter we are having or will be undertaking some more improvements, some are environmental some aren’t, one is the creation of a Butterfly Arena, all the weeds that were removed from the loch during the summer, and I mean a lot approx 30 + tons, have been proper composted, are now cool and stable, are to be incorporated into soil in a mound in front of where we cut down the willow trees, which are re-growing stronger than before, into which we will be planting, Buddleia and other butterfly inducing plants, this to enhance the Fishery and surrounding area hopefully soon we will have a fantastic fruitful area with zillions of winged insects and others to drift over the loch, If by chance anyone out there has plants that fit this bill please get in touch, So this past week we have been steady with anglers however atrocious weather has been interrupting some days but not nearly as bad as the forecasters said it would be, Jim Selfridge and Pete Wilson both Kirkcaldy had 6 and 4 on Black Nymphs, Peter Haynes Kirkcaldy using dry flies had 9 again having an excellent days fishing, However the best result has to be from Eddie Henderson, Perth, last Monday at the height of the hurricane, Eddie undaunted was out fishing with his dry flies, with 5 all returned he has to the undisputed champ this week, I don’t even know how he managed to get a line out.
