Goldenloch
Hopefully now, we should have reached the end of the algae problem, the algae this year has been a strange one, for a start, it has only ever affected a small area, unfortunately it is the boat area, this where new visiting anglers first arrive at, however it has positively helped the fishing by driving the fish up to the far end of the loch, where the fishing this year has been outstanding, parachute buzzers and old fashioned dry flies have been the norm, its been a real good year for the dedicated Fly Fishers and its been a year of plenty, we are fast approaching the winter months, it is this time that the available feeding drops rapidly, water temperatures have already taken a little bit of a dive, with outside day air being an average of 11 degrees for two or three days, therefore we have seen the water temperature fall to 14 degrees, albeit the high this year was 16, now is the time when fish can be caught pretty easy, with almost any type of fly, the weed has taken a real pounding with masses being pulled out, for some reason this year it is coming out by the roots freely and last week saw huge amounts pulled, the snail, shrimp and stone fly larvae casts are just unbelievable and its easy to see where the fish are getting their condition from, Sandy Drummond, Kingskettle fishing with his buddy had an amazing afternoon as did Stewart Milne, Glenrothes who moved to every corner of the loch and caught fish in every spot using small long tailed wet flies, I don’t think we have had anybody not catch fish for ages, even the beginners have all done exceptionally well, several first time anglers have visited lately, all had basically an introductory lesson in Fly Fishing, this lesson gives the individual confidence to be able to go to any fishery close to where they live, be able to set up a rod with line and flies, they have been shown how to cast and tie knots, its then up to them to go out and practise, we have been doing this for years and its been a huge success, we couldn’t have done this without a lot of help by you our angling friends, who over the years have donated equipment and flies, we have recently decided to stop doing under 14 year olds as this needs instructors to have Disclosure Scotland Certificates and our insurers insist upon goggles, lifejackets, and that parents be in attendance, however all is not lost and there is another fishery in Fife who specialize in teaching youngsters, water clarity just now is pretty good and fish are active in all parts of the loch.
