May-15th–Week 20- 2017
Just near perfect, conditions this past week have been absolutely amazing, it had to happen, as the past few months have been pretty shocking, with loads of fish in the water, catches have been good, naw, they have been great, there has been the odd angler not doing so well, but they for many reasons knew that they were not going to catch many, what has really been great has been the amount of fish caught using dry flies, etc the months of lads tying suspender buzzers, parachute buzzers, shipman’s, hoppers spiders has paid of handsomely, so the fights from the fish have also surpassed expectations and many anglers commenting on the fish quality, I had an interesting conversation with a Canadian gent, who was in Scotland on a fishing trip, he popped in for a couple of hours fishing, was well impressed with the fish quality, and fitness, back home in Canada most trout in the wild only grow to a maximum of 1 to 2 kilos, these would be big ones as that is the optimum size for a rainbow in its natural environment, big trout are considered to be a nuisance, back where he comes from in Ontario all fishing is fly only, that for many types of fish, in the hundreds of natural lakes, natural fish all feeding on insects and small fry, but he commented that what we have here was maybe small, but every bit as good as some of the best back home. However where there is an up, there is usually a down, it is extremely disappointing when the fishing is so much fun that some *munters* have to resort to snake flies, which by all accounts are just worms with evil hooks attached, one was removed complete with cast, which had detached (badly tied) from a dead trouts throat, the other a pink one was found in a boat, please there are many places that welcome these so called flies on their fisheries, DO NOT USE THEM HERE, Catches have been brilliant otherwise and with way to many names to mention it can only be reiterated that fishing is for fun and pleasure, the time spent on a boat or the bank is your leisure time, not to be spoilt by others
