Goldenloch
April-10th –Week 15- 2017
A much improved week, but still a long way to go, four really cold mornings and a few cold nights can really spoil the fishing, but when its right, its good, Graham MacDougal twice got it right, both times not only did he get plenty fish but the Osprey must have known as well, some cracking pictures were captured, the water is slowly clearing but is still very slightly cloudy, due in most to the variable wind both in strength and direction, insect hatches are slowly happening, but this depends upon warm winds and sunshine, buzzers and nymphs are the main flies to use however Montana’s and the famous tadpoles are doing equally as well, Brian Dewar and Alec Burns had a good days sport, interestingly they had cleaned a couple of fish, which both had what seemed like miniature clams inside their bellies, yesterday an angler said he had noticed whilst looking over the side of a boat, a fish rooting in the mud on the loch floor with its snout well and truly stirring up the mud, that’s what they do when they are hungry, it is auguring well for some amazing fishing, just lets hope it warms sooner rather than later, a few new faces these last few days but I cant help but notice that there are a few lads out there that are struggling a bit to cast, at the end of last season Brian McGlashan one of Scotland’s top Fly Fishing Instructors offered up his time to come here to the Goldenloch to see if he could help some of you guys with your casting, what I would like to do is see if there is a new demand for this again, “The Goldenloch Fly Fishing Clinic” also if there is a demand I am more than willing to have an open day, we could all benefit from this, I would see if I could get Brian again, Please just get in touch, Over the past 15 + years we have had thousands of kids from many schools attend days here that were free days, this was to encourage new anglers to the sport, unfortunately for us this seems to have dried up, could be because the schools have no time or interest or maybe other lochs are doing same, we at the Goldenloch, still however do not charge for beginners and newbie’s so if you are wanting to go fishing, you haven’t a clue please get in touch, we have everything you will need, and its free, or if anybody knows someone, tell them to get in touch as we need them as much as they need us. The Grim brothers, from Perth had a reasonable day this week, but as I have mentioned its been a lot colder so they like others have suffered, with smaller catches, it will change and it will be soon just be patient, spring is nearly here, some anglers are still hibernating, but they are stirring.
